Progress Report
Monday May 27th
Today the brainstorming and planning phase commenced with our group members of Amitabh Kumar, Andre Dubier, and Derek Zhang. The morale of this lesson was high and each group member was eager to voice his own opinion on the design, content and roles of the designated task. These are the ideas we brainstormed…
Design- Clean, lots of white space, minimalistic, modern, orderly and simple colour palette ( black, white, grey with some splashes of colour)
Content- Food blog with recipes and recommendations on restaurants. Education website about personal experiences. Sports blog with insights on different sporting events and current sporting problems. This was the hardest part of our brainstorming phase as each of these ideas were posed. We chose sports blog as it was the groups most shared interest so would be easier to create.
Roles-
Andre Dubier- In charge of USB and Xammp working correctly. As well as transferring wordpress online design to USB and editing content.
Amitabh Kumar- In charge of creating content in terms of posts and theory component matrix.
Derek Zhang- In charge of aesthetic content to our blog, such as pictures, colour schemes and layout features. As well as market analysis as to how to approach this sort of task.
This was an important day as it commenced our work for this assessment task.
Wednesday May 29th
Today we as a group began on constructing the roots of our project and was the beginning of our work. We focused todays lesson on installing the very complex files of Xammp and this was to be a tiresome process indeed. The files took a long time to download and install on our USB’s but Mr Stead was able to guide us through it. Once the files were downloaded this marked the first stage of our progressive workflow.
Thursday May 30th
Today 0ur group as well as the rest of the class learnt the technical mind behind Xammp and how we needed to configure it to use it in our project. This configuration marked the second stage of our website creation workflow. The third stage began with the creation of our url http://www.bethesport.sport.blog/. This url encased all of our elements of our websites purpose and them and it will help us highlight our message and furthermore develop interest of the audience.
Tuesday 4th- Thursday June 6th
These 3 days were part of the fourth stage of our groups progressive workflow and is one of the most crucial elements of our project, design. Design is one of the most important elements of our group project as it sets the mood and first impressions of our website. Without a successful first impression the audience will be disinterested and not engage with our message. Our first element of design was our theme which we chose but wasn’t finalised until the next day , due to ineffective time management planning.
We worked on the next element of design of colour scheme and graphics such as sourcing images and creating original images like banner. As previously stated our group is attempting for a simplistic look with simple plain colours with a splash of rainbow. These elements of design took over these days and lessons as they were extremely crucial.
These elements marked the conclusion of our fourth stage of our workflow. At the moment we have established a solid base of ideas, downloaded Xammp, created a url and added many elements of design/ aesthetics.
Friday 7th – Tuesday June 11th
In this 5 day window our group commenced the fifth and sixth stage of our progressive workflow. These two stages were the content and the editing. Since this was such a broad time span I’ll quickly recap each days progress.
Friday we designated each others roles in content building each one of us assigned a different page in which we had to develop ideas and link it to the concept of sport. As well as adding links to the website.
Over the course of the weekend our group continued to develop their assigned blog posts.
On Monday and Tuesday these posts were edited and refined to ensure that the posts were to the best of our abilities.
Wednesday 12th- Thursday June 13th
These two days were focused entirely on transferring the website data from the online version to the USB.
Evaluation
This project for us as a group was a fantastic learning opportunity.
Due to the pro’s of the task, these included, new skills, team management and creativity. The skills we learnt were quite extraordinary and really tested ourselves by developing and conditioning our minds to think outside our comfort box. These skills included html coding and functioning a server hosted of a USB . Team management was also a very vital part of the task which we really liked as it built communication and also extended ourselves as we worked of each other’s ideas to create something not possible individually. Creativity was also a very strong appeal of this task as we were given the freedom with so many things including layout, content and name of our site. This allowed us to develop our minds in a free space. The pro’s of the task were new skills, team management and creativity.
The con’s of the task were a short list but was mainly the transferring of data. This process was extremely high work for something that could’ve been easier to do and the fact that Xammp didn’t run on Apple machines was also a turn off factor of this project.
In summary, as a group we functioned pretty well. We had a flexible time management plan which allowed us to create changes if necessary. This time management system though didn’t help us towards the back end of the task as other assessments overshadowed this one and we lost track of time. In terms of idea generation our group was able to develop numerous ideas and then brainstorm effective means of making these ideas a reality. These ideas then were distributed among the group to complete to a high standard. Our group cohesion was very high, we were able to get along well which improved our mindset furthermore optimising our work. In conclusion, our group worked well together through time management, idea generation and cohesion.
In conclusion of all points, our project was successful. There was numerous pro’s to the project of new skills, team management and creativity. however there were con’s which included the inability to run Xammp on Apple and the time it took to complete the transfer of data. Our group worked well together which made this project a success.
